calming the brain
In Dr Amen's SPECT with DYE, we see the brain's blood flow.
In a 'normal' brain we see the blood flow, the synapses firing in one or two areas of the brain to do a simple task, however we at rexie are realising that glare affects more adults and children than ever before.
In an Irlen brain, we see so much over-processing in many areas of the brain, for simple tasks. It looks like a firecracker. All Irlen blood flow shows a similar pattern.
When the person uses coloured lenses, and goes back in the SPECT with dye, the brain synapses calm down back to a few areas, normalising behaviour.
Professionals can wrongly diagnose ADHD, ADD and autism, as the brain image on SPECT with dye looks similar, when really it could be Irlen or when rexie can help.

I don't believe stupid exists
Unfortunately a lot of children think they are stupid. They get called names and they are bullied for being 'dumb'.
The brain is fluid, plastic ever changing it's own scape, so it can't possibly be stupid. It doesn't exist if we can always improve.
Lots of famous dyslexics to look up. Plenty of rockstars with Irlen.
You can be stronger & smarter with rexie.
This mantra, formed by Chris Sarra helped a lot of First Nation children in Queensland, learn to read, write and speak clearly, better with huge impact on school results.

it isn't the eyes
While the light hits our eyes at slightly differing rates for the signal to reach our brain, the correction with colour, glare and calmness is a brain issue first, and is instantly better with less glare and the right colour.
Irlen also is about depth perception and clumsiness, messiness.
So what will rexie do for you?
We don't know how your life will change, but it would be good to see your brain calm down with the right one or two colours.
Our Services
My Story
My personal story;
Under old fluros, in bright blue-white lighting situations, & while out shopping, it feels like I have a rooster perched on the back of my neck.
However, using my colours; yellow or blue tinted glasses, depending on the time of day, calms me.
an effortless sigh, I feel my shoulders lower & relax.
I can walk the line on Montessori without being clumsy. If I take my glasses off, I fall off the tightrope line on the floor. Put them back on, and I can walk smoothly with control and ease.
I always had to make my school timetable large and coloured each subject, as I was placed all over the high school.
I was late to class if I didn't use my tinted lenses, and paperwork and my hair, looked like a mess. I was bullied for my personality traits, being a humanitarian, and doing my job well enough & having too much fun encouraging teenagers.
So, I did my own thing. I taught in practical ways with all subjects.
I turned off fluros in my classrooms, and most children would feel relieved. Other teachers would turn them on. I had trained my teenagers well enough to turn them off again without a fuss after they left.
I could tell who I could help as I walked the length of the hall in exams.
The teenager laughing, messy looking, swinging his chair under an old flickering fluro, holding his body hunched over the light, throwing a paper plane, guessing multiple choice answers ABBCDB and simply the look of their handwriting of their name on their paper. Always finishing with too much time on the clock, and not wanting to try for better, longer answers, and leaving things blank.
I can better help more children and adults with special needs, from all backgrounds now, with rexie, by creating a pilot program, or visiting on a teacher development day as a consultant, than I ever could as a classroom teacher. This web space is for people wanting to grow their brain, ask questions and share their story.
It is worth it for me, if just one child improves with rexie.
In the Montessori setting, I used colour to help young toddlers change their handwriting, read aloud smoothly, were calmly working for 3 hours or longer on their individual work.
Now, I work productively, for longer time periods, with a clear mind, using colour-coding, to sort my characters in my writing my novel with multiple points of view. I can't wait to work on it, completely motivated, and having fun while doing it.
Whether I work on the computer, or by hand, my colours are used daily to sort, make sense and make words still and clear.
My depth perception has improved particularly when crossing main roads.

Our
Story

In 1985 my father Patrick Brown helped children to read using affordable coloured overlays, after reading about Helen Irlen, and dyslexia.
What clicked for me, was the speed of how a pink colour helped a friend's brain almost instantly.
I was a young girl when Dad brought home a set of tinted lenses from OPSM, whom we suspected was dyslexic.
I will never forget the sound of young 11 year young David reading aloud with a clunky sound, making mistakes, losing his place. We tried a lot of colours, but with pink lenses held up to his eyes, it changed.
It seemed magical, calm and harmonious as he read aloud, within 30 seconds now sounding smooth.
I wish I had the handwriting samples, comparing to white paper. Dad found the right coloured paper for the child, I didn't believe the change to beautiful handwriting which couldn't have been written by the same child, using coloured paper!
While it definitely started there, as a teacher I used colour in all of my classes for surprising results. I found the process quiet lonely as not many people knew about this then, and still we are showing how easy the process is.
The difficulty is to use the colours daily, everywhere to change the way your brain your life.
We can drop the labels, or add diagnosis labels for funding, or teacher support for what each child needs in terms of environment, and their particular one or two colours.
